AirMagnet Planner allows you to build a detailed model of any wireless environment – even before implementing the network or building. Simply load a location map and use the built-in library of walls, doors and windows to match the exact characteristics of the building. AirMagnet Planner allows you to add access points to any location and experiment to find the perfect place in the environment, depending on their requirements.

The software also provides independent settings for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio frequencies. The planner can set AP channel, IP address, transmitting power, antenna type, orientation, height, and 802.11 specifications. After the planning session, a professional component list report can be generated, which contains information necessary for proper network installation. In addition to radio range information, it may include performance indicators such as data rates and bandwidth. Thanks to advanced automatic scheduling algorithms it is possible to automatically place access points on site. The software allows you to specify the minimum expected signal range, transmitting power, AP media type and more, while also marking areas of Wi-Fi coverage and areas where the AP cannot be placed.

The AirMagnet Survey’s wireless terrain survey allows the use of multiple adapters connected to the same computer, providing users with a solution that simulates different client tips. Having an accurate wireless tool shortens the time and effort of surveying the site, cuts costs by half and requires users to walk upstairs only once to collect all the required data. With this 802.11 Wireless Network Testing Tool, users can simulate various changes in the network and preview the effects. Options include changing transmission power of AP, channel, SSID settings and adding ambient noise. Users can also simulate moving access points to new locations and view the effect of adding additional access points. AirMagnet Survey allows users to create an automatic channel plan for access points to avoid disruption and over-allocation.

Automatic wall import

The automatic wall import feature reduces the time spent on preparing a floor plan for wireless deployment by quickly importing walls from floor plans in CAD format with just a few mouse clicks. Each CAD layer can be individually selected and assigned a unique damping type.

Wi-Fi networks are dynamic, so to ensure the best performance for end users, you can verify changes in network coverage and performance. The Diff View function in the AirMagnet Survey allows you to visualise the differences between two separate measurements. Diff View helps you see how the wireless environment has changed over time. It is an excellent tool for system integrators, providing the company with continuous verification of network coverage and performance. Similarly, users can use this feature to quickly compare AirMagnet Planner results with actual on-site measurements. This information can then be used to accurately adjust decibel losses for construction and environmental conditions in Planner for more accurate planning.

Network emulation 802.11

AirMagnet Planner allows to design new 802.11 networks and plan migration strategies for existing legacy networks, such as one-to-one replacement or phased introduction of newer devices to an older network.

The software allows planning for network or user performance without tedious physical AP testing. AirMagnet Planner provides unique range maps for WLAN bandwidth and other “thermal” maps for various parameters such as signal range, operating modes, MCS transmission speed, channel width and channel overlap. Reports can be saved in many formats, such as PDF, XML, HTML, Excel or Word.
